Recommended Publishers for the
Rocky Mountain Writer's Summit™

The Publishing industry is vast and nebulous to many authors, and we desire to change that through education.

There are many types of publishing

.

The Rocky Mountain Writer's Summit will educate you on all these types of publishing so that you can find the right path down the publishing path for you. If you would like to hear a free class comparing and contrasting the methods of publishing, we invite you to listen to the free class at ejthornton.com.

During the Rocky Mountain Writer's Summit, there will be a class on the ins and outs of the publishing contract. Sample publishing contracts and explanations of the clauses and terminology will also be available during the day at the selected publisher's booth.

Common Publishing Questions:

  • How much does it cost to self-publish a book?

  • How does a book get into book stores?

  • How long does it take a commercial publisher to release a book?

  • Will I ever get my creative rights back if I commercially publish?

  • What if I don't like what my publisher did to my book?

  • My publisher changed my title, can I do anything about it?

  • If I self publish, how do I get on to amazon.com and other online book sellers?

  • If I use a print-on-demand publisher, how do I convince bookstores to take me seriously?

  • What is a reasonable royality?

  • What is a reasonable advance?

  • When does an author actually get paid?

  • I only want to publish about 100 copies for my family and friends, what is the most cost-effective way to do that?

There are many more important questions to ask a publisher and you'll have the opportunity to do that on January 16, in Lone Tree, Colorado.

If you have a question you would like a publisher to answer, please go to the 'Contact us' page and send it in. We will do our best to get it answered for you.

Writer's Summit Tip #39:

Book marketing is a lot of work. Most authors want to sell a million copies of a book, so that they can retire. As with a great many things, if you want to replace the income your day job is bringing in, you'll have to invest as much time (sometimes more) time to it before it will accomplish the end goal.

Writer's Summit Tip #20:
Sell books!
Don't give them away!!!
(especially to family)"
They'll understand...

Don't be guilted into giving your books away just because someone knows you. The only exception to this rule is if you have listed them by name in the dedication or acknowledgements.

This simple rule helps you avoid hurt feelings, lost profits and stress inside a family.

Go ahead, blame your publisher, if someone doesn't 'get it'!!!

If you start offering a 'family discount,' you'll be amazed at certain people's definition of family. Your first print run needs to be sold so that you can make the sales numbers you need to make to get your second printing. If you give all your books away (or more than you can afford to, you'll find yourself feeling resentful about the whole process. Avoid this by making a hard and fast rule: If their name isn't printed on the inside of your book, they pay the price printed on the outside of your book.
