Come to Lone Tree Colorado on January 16, 2010 and see what we mean when we say, "This is the largest free* author-centric event in the US!"

Mark your calendars for this free* event runs from 9am - 5pm and will feature dozens of local authors telling their path to being published and feature the most important service providers authors need to get started and to create a best-selling book.

The publishing business is vast and can be overwhelming - come learn more about it from the people who work in it every single day and want to give back to a creative community of authors!

*free - a donation of 2 cans of food or $5/person at the door will be collected to donate to the Foodbank of the Rockies!

Writer's Summit Tip #26:

There is a professional organization that most reputable Literary Agents belong to called the "Association of Author's Representatives - AAR). Find out if the literary agent you want belongs to and is in good standing with this association. If they are not, you need to find out why they don't belong or why they are not in good standing.

This is a voluntary membership, so there may be quite legitimate reasons for one not to join. It is an important discussion point if you are hiring a literary agent.

Writer's Summit Tip #10:

Hand your first proof to someone who is a skilled editor and allow them to 'clean' up your book BEFORE you share your book with friends and family.

Remember, your first proof is not ready for publication! It is like a newborn baby with the gunk still on it. If you do you share your book prematurely with non-professionals, you open yourself up to unnecessary criticism and (unintentional) dream stealing.

Your confidence is what will drive the book's initial sales and any early words of criticism can ring in your ears for a long time. Wait until you are confident in your project and solid in your dream - BEFORE you share it with others, especially those closest to you whose opinions you value highly!
